Want To Add Some Decoration Outside This Summer? 2 Things You Can Do

After a long, cold winter, it is nice to go outside and enjoy your front yard once spring arrives. If you would like to add some decoration, you have many options to choose from. Below are two of these options so you can decide what would work best for you.

Add Flowers

Flowers are the easiest way to decorate your front yard without a lot of expense. Find an area of your yard where you want to place flowers and remove the top layer of grass until you see soil. Work the soil using a shovel or a tiller and add some compost. How much compost you add depends on how large the area is. For example, if you have only a small area, pour about a half of a small bag, or if the area is large, pour the whole bag on it. Work the compost in using a shovel or tiller. This provides nutrients for your flowers.

Go to a garden center and purchase some inexpensive annuals that grow well in your area as well as in the area of your yard you are planting them in, such as full sun or shade. You will be surprised at how quickly annuals can grow. Look at the plant tag, as it shows you how much you need to space out the flowers, how much water they need, and how much sun they require.

Plant some annuals in some containers and place it on your front porch. Trailing annuals look great, such as petunias, vinca, lobelia, and alyssum.

Add Decorative Bird Houses

Hang some decorative bird houses in the trees. They not only make your yard look great but also provide a home for birds and bird nests.

You can purchase decorative bird houses in some shops in your area as well as online. The options are endless of what you can choose from your favorite sports team to flowers painted on them. You can also make decorative bird houses on your own, and if you have children, they can help you paint and decorate them.

If you do not have enough trees to hang the bird houses on, you can insert a long pole in the ground and attach the birdhouse to the top of the pole. Make sure the pole is tall enough so the birds feel safe and so that people driving by can see it. Spread some bird seed around the area where you place the birdhouses to draw the birds to them.

Once you finish with these two things, sit down with your family and think of other things you can do to your yard.
